Italian soda is a soft drink made from a mixture of carbonated water and flavored syrup. Despite its name, Italian soda, it actually originates from the United States. This recipe was created by Italian immigrants living in San Francisco in 1920. However, it has begun to gain popularity since Torani (Rinaldo and Ezilda Torre) introduced this recipe in 1925 and brought it to the North Coast neighborhood of San Francisco, California.

Well, one of the recipes that are no less popular than Italian Soda is Blood Orange Italian Soda which has a unique color and is suitable to be enjoyed together at Christmas. Here’s the recipe for you.

Blood Orange Italian Soda is a fresh drink that can be enjoyed together at Christmas dinner with the family. This layered drink not only has beautiful colors but also has a fresh and varied taste. Ingredients

  • 1 large bottle of sparkling water

  • 1 cup freshly squeezed blood oranges juice

  • 1 cup of sugar

  • 1 cup unsweetened coconut milk

  • 1 drop red gel food coloring

  • Zest from 2 blood oranges

  • Ice to taste

  • basil or mint and few Zest orange slices to garnish

Directions

  • Bring to a boil 2 grated orange peels, freshly squeezed blood oranges juice, and sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat. Cook until it boils and sugar dissolves. Turn off the heat and let it cool to room temperature or chill in the refrigerator until the syrup is ready to use. Meanwhile, dip the Zest orange slices over the red food coloring until it gets the blood color.
  • Fill a glass with enough ice cubes, and place the Zest blood orange slice on the rim of the glass. Pour the syrup into a glass for about ¼ cup, followed by sparkling water, and unsweetened coconut milk. Layer and garnish with basil or mint. Enjoy immediately !!
