The name kailan itself comes from the Cantonese language, in Mandarin, it is called Jielan. Gai Lan or Chinese broccoli is usually made into preparations such as sautéed with ginger and garlic and boiled or steamed and served with oyster sauce.

This leafy vegetable is characterized by thick, flat, glossy blue-green leaves with thick stems, and florets similar to but much smaller than broccoli in general. When they bloom, their white flowers resemble those of her cousin, Matthiola incana or Hoary Stock. It tastes very similar to broccoli but is slightly bitter and stronger. Ingredients

  • 3 lbs Chinese broccoli, slice the stems diagonally, and cut the leaf halves in half

  • 2 tablespoon avocado oil or olive oil

  • 2 teaspoon finely chopped garlic cloves

  • ½ teaspoon coarse sea salt

  • Garnish:
  • 1 tablespoon coconut aminos

  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil

Directions

  • Heat 2 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the china broccoli stalks, season with ¼ teaspoon of coarse salt and chopped garlic, and sauté for 2 minutes or until the stems turn bright green. Add the leafy part of the Chinese broccoli and saute briefly. Cover and cook for about 3 minutes until the leaves turn dark green. Season with ¼ tsp coarse salt and mix well. Transfer to a large plate.
  • Serve with roasted sesame oil and amino coconut. Enjoy immediately !!
