What are Garlic Scalloped Potatoes?

Scalloped Potatoes themselves are those that use potatoes as the main ingredient. In North America, this term refers to a dish also known as “potatoes au gratin” or “gratin de pomes de Terres”.

What Ingredients Are Needed to Make Scalloped Potatoes?

The term gratin itself comes from French “gratter” which means “to grate” and “gratiné” which means “covered with crust or skin”. The hallmark of gratin is a grilled dish with a brown surface as it is topped with breadcrumbs, grated cheese, eggs, or butter and served in a low-wall, heat-resistant container.

The most popular gratin dish is made of potato, which is sliced into thin rounds, as is the case with scalloped potatoes and potatoes gratiné. They are also baked and served in casserole containers. The creamy taste is created because this dish uses cream or milk.

How Do You Make Scalloped Potatoes?

However, there is a slight difference between the two dishes. Potatoes au gratiné use grated cheese between the layers of potatoes, whereas scalloped potatoes generally do not use cheese. In addition, the top of the gratin is usually sprinkled with breadcrumbs so that it becomes brown after baking, while the scalloped potatoes are left plain. The potato slices on scalloped potatoes are also somewhat thicker than those on gratins.

So, to enjoy this American-style dish, you don’t have to bother flying to the Continent. Because now you can make it yourself at home.

Come on. we just made it.
