Turtle Cookies are one of the family’s favorite snacks that combine delicious chocolate cookies with melting caramel sauce with a savory taste and crunchy pecans.

Ingredients

  • 1 egg

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • ½ cup brown sugar

  • ½ cup granulated sugar

  • ½ cup unsalted butter

  • ½ cup melted homemade salted caramel

  • ½ cup chopped pecans

  • 2 tbsp milk

  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract

  • ½ tsp baking soda

  • ½ tsp salt

Directions

  • preheat oven to 350º F and prepare several bowls to make a separate batter.
  • Separate the eggs into egg yolks and egg whites.
  • In the first bowl, combine butter and sugar, beat until soft and fluffy.
  • In a second bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt. Stir until combined. Then add the egg yolk, milk, and vanilla extract. Stir until the mixture is evenly mixed.
  • Combine the dough above with the butter and sugar mixture. Stir until smooth. Let stand and chill the dough in the refrigerator for an hour.
  • In a third bowl, beat the egg whites in a bowl until foamy while waiting for the dough to cool.
  • Once cool, remove the dough from the refrigerator and roll into small balls. You can adjust the number and shape to your liking.
  • Roll each ball of dough with the egg white that has been foamed, then roll the cake balls over the pecans. But make sure it is spaced and does not cover the cake.
  • Prepare a baking sheet and grease with oil or non-stick paper. Place the cake ball roll on the baking sheet. Then press down on the cake ball using the back of a small measuring spoon so that the cake ball becomes slightly flattened.
  • Bake the cake at 350 Degrees F for 10-12 minutes, or until the cake is slightly hardened.
  • Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly before serving.
  • Place the cake on a serving plate, then pour the caramel onto the cake according to taste. And this cookies are crispy and soft ready to be enjoyed.

Notes

  • Don’t overcook the cake. So that when it cools down, the cake does not harden and become difficult to bite and chew.
